An interview with Mrs Richards

The Children Interview Mrs Richards

The interview took place on Tuesday 9th March at 2.45p.m. in the school hall.  All the classes thought of questions they wanted to ask Mrs Richards and Miss Dykes and the teachers decided which would be asked during the afternoon.  We were all very impressed with the questions the children thought of and some had to be censored!!  Miss Dykes was the Chairman and we all think that Michael Parkinson could soon be out of a job!

Here are the questions and Mrs Richards answers - we hope you find them interesting!!

Katie, class 5 asked;

Do you like caravan holidays?

I haven't been on many caravan holidays but I remember staying in a caravan in Weston with some friends when I was about 17.  We had a great time and lots of fun.  We had to look after ourselves and do all the cooking so some of the food was a bit strange.  I suppose the answer to the question would be "Yes I do like caravan holidays.

Shannon R, class 4 asked;

Do you like driving?

 I love driving.  When I was about 14 I couldn't wait to learn to drive and it seemed a long time until I was 17.  I love driving all types of cars and will drive anywhere in this country and abroad.  I have also driven Land Rovers on off road courses and local Green Lanes which are very, very bumpy roads.

Chloe P, class 5 asked;

Do you like reading fashion magazines?

I don't read fashion magazines a lot.  Sometimes I look at my daughters or I will look at them in a waiting room.  I prefer magazines about the garden,sports or about animals, especially horses.  Best of all I like reading books.

Joseph, class 4 asked;

Do you like your job?

Yes, I like coming to school, seeing the children and the teachers and meeting the parents. I like it best when all the girls and boys are good and happy.  It would be awful to do a job I didn't like.

Tegan, class 5 asked this for Hannah in class 5;

Who is you favourite actor?

He has changed as I have grown up.  When I was little it was a cowboy called Bronco Lane but as I got older I liked Clint Eastwood in the Spagetti Westerns, infact I still like Cint Eastwood and wanted to call my first dog Clint but my friends wouldn't let me!  Now I like all the actors in "The Lord of the Rings" films - they are my favourite films at the moment. I also have a soft spot for Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Carribean (Don't tell Mr Richards)!

Jessica, class 5 asked;

What is your favourite flower?

That's easy, it's a daffodil. They are so bright and cheerful at this time of year and you see them in gardens, parks, the sides of roads and in the woods. They make me think that spring and summer will soon be here.

Andrew, class 5 asked;

What is your favourite food?

I love all food!  I like fruit, vegetables, salads, cheese, sausages, cocolate and bread and butter. When I was a little girl my friends mothers used to call me the bread and butter girl because I always asked for more.

Kaitlyn G, class 1 asked;

Do you have a pet?

Yes. I have a black dog called Matt, a cat called Rosie and two horses called Selina and Chocolate. They all take a lot of looking after but we must all look after our pets because they can't look after themselves.

Ryan, class 4 asked;

Do you go to the leisure centre?

Yes, but not as often as I should. Where I live in Pontypool I am a long way from the leisure centre and I can't walk there like you can in Caldicot. I try to go swimming but I have stopped going to the gym as it is too hard and I get tired!

Mikaela, class 2 asked;

Where do you like to go on holiday?

I like going in this country and abroad but I don't like going to the same place all the time. I like the countryside, the mountains, walks and the seaside.  I like the seaside when the sea is rough. If it is hot and sunny I like reading a good book on holiday.

Shannon H, class 4 asked;

Does it make you happy when children get certificates?

Yes. I love seeing the children's proud faces when their name is read out.  They sit up straight and smile. It makes me proud of you and I like seeing your parents looking proud of you too. It makes me happy to know that you are all trying so hard.

James, class 5 asked for Cameron;

When did you become a Headmistress?

I became Headteacher at Sandy Lane in 1991 but before that I had been a headteacher in another school from 1988. That means I have been a headteacher for 16 years!!

Amy, class 4 asked;

What do you do in your office?

I close the door put my feet up and read a magazine, would you like to swap with me?  Do you believe me? Actually it's quite difficult to tell you so shall I say what I did this morning? I met a visitor, telephoned County Hall about the budget, spoke to a new parent, read the mail, checked my e-mails, sent e-mails to other schools about a meeting, wrote a report for the governors meeting on Thursday, wrote up the Fire Risk Assessment Action Plan, spoke to Mrs Taylor about dinners, checked an invoice with Mrs Vincent as well as taking lots of telephone calls about children's absences etc........

Molly C, class 3 asked;

What are your favourite jobs in school?

I like being in the classrooms and doing anything with the children. I love talking to you all and I like giving stars and stickers for good work.

Tess, class 5 asked;

When and where were you born?

I was born in 1954 in Exeter which is in Devon. I was born at St. Margarets nursing home at half past four in the morning. I weighed 8lb.4oz. and was bald!!

Euan, class 3 asked;

Have you got any children?

I have got one daughter called Charlotte. She is seventeen years old and was born in Newport. She is a good girl and works hard in school although sometimes I have to tell her off if she is naughty!

Iwan, class 1 asked;

Who are your family?

I have my daughter, Mr Richards, my mother and my grandmother who is 93.  I only have one uncle who lives in Norwich. I don't have a father as he died when I was a little girl. We are quite a small family.

Cameron, class 2 asked;

Have you been on a diet?

Do I look too fat? I am very lucky because I can eat more or less what I like.  Sometimes I watch what I eat and I eat plenty of fruit, vegetables and salad.  I try to cut down on the bread and butter!!

Thomas, class 5 asked;

What do you think of holiday camps?

I haven't been to one but I've always wanted to. I think I might like to go to Centre Parks and I quite fancy the fair at Butlins.
